Alice was walking barefoot in her hostel when she stepped on something sharp. Ignoring the pain, Alice continued her trip until she realised her foot was infected. The wounded area on her foot had become swollen and was oozing pus, and the pain from walking on it was becoming unbearable. Alice visited a local doctor, who referred her to the hospital after discovering she had stepped on a needle, which had broken off in her foot. Unsure of how she would pay for treatment, Alice contacted her travel insurer. They paid for her medical expenses and contacted her tour group to cancel the rest of her trip.
